The LINCOR project is part of research and processing of natural languages domain (NLP-Natural Language Processing), a sub domain of Human Language Technologies. The project has a multi-disciplinary aspect, involving not only the solving of linguistic problems, but also computational problems on natural language processing.

     The project's focus is on promoting linguistic diversities in the informational society, learning of specific languages, consolidating the linguistic infrastructure, and developing of digital content. The central natural language in this multilingual framework is the Romanian language, thus allowing the strengthening of bidirectional communication between the Romanian language and other languages. 

General objectives

     The goals of the LINCOR project are the following: the developing of a linguistic knowledge system for pairs of languages, the creation of a solid bilingual knowledge base, from the Romanian language to widely spoken languages (first, we consider the English language).

Specific objectives

  • To define processes and structures as the basis for multi-linguistic resources: multi-linguistic system architecture, description of linguistic correspondences between pairs of natural languages
  • To realize NLP(Natural Language Processing) tools that allows the creation, maintenance and using bilingual linguistic resources
  • To produce (using the above tools) the linguistic knowledge base for a set of natural languages: monolingual linguistic knowledge (morphological description, grammar description, monolingual dictionaries) and bilingual linguistic knowledge (multi word expression dictionaries, lexical dictionaries, morphological dictionaries, syntactic dictionaries)
  • To study and compare the methods of the existing algorithms and the definition of innovative algorithms that process lexical correspondences.
  • To build several frameworks that will make possible the rapid development of linguistic applications; to design and make a framework for the management (adding, saving and accessing) of a linguistic knowledge base with strongly relationed information related to the correspondences between two languages
  • To make a framework that permits assisted translation and of a demonstrative translator prototype
